Auburn, NY to

Richfield Springs or Sharon Springs, NY:

88 or 109 miles

Richfield Springs was our scheduled ending point for this day, but because we were going to portage to the Albany area and start from there in the morning, Carl rode an extra 21 miles to Sharon Springs.

US-20, Central NY

We found out that this portion of the trip was the hilliest, even though our maximum elevation was below 2,000Õ. Instead we bounced from down around 600Õ up to about 1,600Õ constantly. During his 109 miles in the saddle, Carl had over 10,000Õ of climbing.

Looking and feeling cranky at a break.

After we got to our hotel in East Greenbush, we learned that it was so hot that the track in Saratoga had canceled the dayÕs racing. It was the first time the entire dayÕs card had been scratched since before 1940.
